Hello everyone, Google has changed the forms for reporting a point on a Google Maps map. Now you can file complaints and fix a wider range of problems that do not comply with the rules of positioning on Google Maps. Let’s discuss it.

SO. We came today to carry out our work, one of the tasks of which was to clean the Moscow area from inadequate positioning on the map among our client’s competitors. And what did we see?

Mmmmmmm, new molds:

  1. We select the place that does not comply with the positioning rules on the map

Then, select → “Suggest a correction” → “This place is closed or not here”

Learn more:

  • Temporarily closed – Select when the business is temporarily closed due to COVID or other reasons and the owner does not use Google My Business or simply forgot to mark this important fact.
  • Closed forever – I came, you are not here. When the business has completely ceased to exist
  • This place is not here – Designed to remove false information. When the business is not really there. This is what we chose before, when the business was there, but it was not. Very often, companies operating on the Internet forget that only public, physical and visitable places can be listed on the map, and that companies providing mobile/online services without a physical location are listed in the catalog. Ours: “Working as a taxi driver in Moscow” is just such a case. We know that such a complaint becomes meaningless if there are many complaints and the business owner cannot prove otherwise.
  • The place is already on the map – click if you find a duplicate. We try to eliminate weak points with less information, duplicates of competitors and so on.
  • Unacceptable, harmful or inaccurate information – “girls for an hour”, “Vasiliy the Sorcerer” and so on
  • This place is not public – Finally! This was what was needed. There are many companies that are actually operating, but do not have a physical location. Such companies are included → in the service catalog. At the moment, the search for these companies is lower than for real physical objects on the map. Their statistics are about 10 times lower, but we think that Google will solve this problem over time. Here is how the company with its service area looks on the map:

  • The company has moved. No need to explain: the company has moved and has not changed its location.
  • Other – I don’t know what else it could be, as far as I’m concerned all the nuances have been taken into account, but what if?

We hope that this innovation will make things easier for you (who love cleanliness on Google Map and are vigilant) and for us, who work on promotion on Google Map. The main thing is that companies that today provide services by phone or via a website/app will not be eliminated, but will have the opportunity to be placed on the map with the service area instead of a point. This is a step towards business.

Such companies will add their website to the Google directory and this will make indexing easier. Individual business owners with various types of activities and mobile services will not be swept away like all those 79,000 points in 2019 and many more after them in 2020.

But Mappers insists: if you have a business and an office, you have the opportunity to hang a sign on the door even in a large shopping mall or office center/coworking space – do it! Upload a photo, at least on your phone. And even if it’s not much, just 1-2 clients a week, they will find you. And the Google moderator will have nothing to say about it.

Good luck with your work
